July 2010 Field Trip

On Saturday July 17th Bill Lemon, from a las Vegas Nevada Rock Club, will be bringing their group up to camp overnight at Yankee Meadows to collect agate including blue agate. Our club has been invited to join them and will meet them in the Smith’s Grocery store parking lot at between 10:00 and 10:30. They may be camping at Yankee Meadow overnight, so you may also have an opportunity to meet at Yankee Meadows on Sunday as they will probably be collecting then too or will be able to direct you to the collection site. On Saturday, the group will also stop in Summit to collect agate on the way to Yankee meadow. We'll send out more details as we find them.

Nov 2009 Field Trip

Our Next outing will be November 6 & 7. The location will be the Mt. Carmel for Septerian nodules. Gathering location will be the Cedar City Library at 8am with departure at 8:15am. High clearance vehicle recommended, SPARE TIRES. Hiking and climbing will be moderate to difficult depending on the area you search.

We also selected the December outing to allow for holiday planning. The December dates are 5 and 6. The location is Gooseberry Mesa for petrified wood, colorful agate, gypsum crystals. The place to meet in Cedar City is the gas station next to Walmart at 8am with departure at 8:15am. We will regroup with our Washington friends in Hurricane at the corner of 100 E 100 S., at 9am with departure at 9:15am. High clearance vehicle recommended, SPARE TIRES. Hiking and climbing will be easy to difficult depending on the area you search. The December location may be changed to Hanksville for better grade petrified wood, if we are able to locate a reliable location. I will send everyone an update on this.

All outings are planned as all day events. PLEASE bring food, water, proper attire, backpack/buckets, rock hammer, small hand shovel, chisel(s), first aid kit, whistle/two-way radios, newspaper to wrap your finds, eye loupe. Outings are cancelled if it rains or snows 24 hours prior or the day of event in the area of the HUNT.
